Rice packaging lines

This packaging application uses XB6S modular remote I/O to address field control, reliable communication and maintainable commissioning.

Rice packaging lines

Application requirements

I/O density, cycle time, motion or process requirements, field distances and maintenance needs are assessed together. This defines the requirements of the working system, not just individual products.

Solution architecture

The proposed architecture combines XB6S modular remote I/O with the machine’s existing control infrastructure and communication protocols. Final product and module selection depends on site requirements.

How can ProControl help?

ProControl can adapt the solution to local project requirements in Türkiye, from site assessment, I/O planning and protocol selection to panel layout, commissioning and after-sales support.

I. Production Process Introduction

Workflow of the Rice Packaging Line: Feeding → Weighing → Bagging → Sealing → Inspection → Palletizing

  • Feeding: The storage silo conveys rice to the weighing hopper through a vibrating feeder or conveyor, ensuring continuous supply.
  • Weighing: High-precision weighing sensors monitor the weight in real time. Once the preset weight is reached, the feed stops, generating a signal indicating weight compliance.
  • Bagging and Sealing: After the packaging bag is in place, the bagging valve opens to complete the filling. The heat sealing or sewing device is activated to seal the bag.
  • Inspection and Sorting: Various sensors are used to check the integrity of seals and the weight. Non-conforming products are removed by the sorting mechanism.
  • Palletizing: Compliant products are conveyed to the palletizing area on a conveyor belt and stacked according to preset patterns before being output.

II. Application of I/O Modules

This packaging line employs the PROFINET bus protocol. The digital input module XB6S-3200 and the output module XB6S-0032B are connected to the PLC via the coupler XB6S-PN2002 . The digital input module XB6S-3200 is responsible for transmitting signals from the various sensors on the rice packaging line, such as the weight compliance signal and the bag in position signal. The digital output module XB6S-0032B transmits signals to the actuators on the rice packaging line based on commands from the control system, such as starting/stopping the conveyor motor, operating the heat sealing or sewing device, and activating the sorting mechanism.
